Reflection on Fall 2012

Looking back at this semester, I have come to realize that it has been one crazy ride. I can honestly say I did not expect to be in the position that I am in today. When I started this semester, I was still not in the major I wanted to be in, I was not really involved in many organizations, and I was not happy with my job. I was simply exhausted with my life at this point. I needed something to change instead of remaining frozen in time.

I remember sitting at the library one day and drinking my Starbucks coffee when I realized what I needed to do. I decided that instead of complaining about how things were not going the way I wanted, I needed to do something about it. It was in the middle of the semester when the changes really took place. First, I applied for another job and locked in the interview. I walked in there with all the confidence I had and luckily was offered the position as an Accounting Aide. Words could not express how pleased I was to be offered the position. I knew this would be a great career move for me. Next, I took my ACT for the fourth time, and finally passed with the score I needed to switch my major to Accountancy at the W.P. Carey School of Business. I still have the score sheet posted on my wall in my room. Blood, sweat, and tears went into passing this test. This will definitely be considered a milestone in my college experience. Finally, I decided I needed to be involved in organizations. I reached out and became a part of ALPFA at ASU as the Director of Corporate relations and the Financial Management Association in the Socials and Volunteering Committee.

Even after accomplishing all this, I was still hungry for more of what college had to offer. I challenged myself further by adding an Economics minor and in pursuit of adding a Technical Communications certificate. I also became a student blogger for the W.P. Carey School of Business. The point I am trying to make is that you should never give up. If you want something badly enough, and if you want to change the way your life is going, you can do it. Thoughts and dreams are nothing without actions behind them. Remember, perseverance will always be rewarded.
